The Constitution is dead.
Well, ok, it's only mostly dead, but it's certainly in the midst of its death throes. For more than a century, those we elected to represent us, those who took a solemn oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, have engaged in the gradual and silent encroachment on the rights of the people and the sovereignty of the several states. Whereas, at the founding of our great republic, the Constitution was understood to place limits on what government could do, today's government has burst the chains intended to bind it, paying mere lip service to that glorious document as it legislates our republic into oblivion.
How did this come to pass? To a large extent, it is because the federal government itself decides what the Constitution that governs it means, and its interpretations over the years have resulted in government's belief that it can do whatever it wants. Another significant cause is because, as Alexis de Tocqueville accurately predicted, politicans discovered that they could bribe the people with the people's own money, ushering in an era of a population dependent on government for its every need or want; in such an environment, unbridled expansion of government power is virtually inevitable.
While it is convenient to point the finger of blame solely at the government, we must also look in the mirror to see who has enabled this departure from constitutional government. If ours is, indeed, a government "of the people, by the people, for the people," we must accept a measure of responsibility for all that has happened. By electing the same people over and over, all of whom promise us the moon and the stars—but whose real goal is the consolidation and perpetuation of their own power—we have ensured that government, once set on the path to destruction, will succeed in destroying this, the last, best hope of the Earth.
Recognizing the inescapable outcome of such a run-away government, the "Common Ground 13," thirteen individuals with nothing in common but a desire to restore the greatness of our republic, banded together and set out on a mission to rescue constitutional government. This site is the home of the movement, and includes a resolution calling for the immediate restoration of the Constitution's role as the foundational law of the republic. We also host a number of discussion forums, aimed at increasing awareness and encouraging action on the part of the public.
This is your site, so look around, find the issues that are most important to you, and join the discussions. Then, share the site with your friends and family; the more people engaged, the better the chances of success. And, most important of all, make sure you sign the resolution and let your voice be heard!
